Second single-THIS COULD BE GOOD.
“This could be good was a song that lurked in the background for years in many a primitive form. I demo’d a song of the same name in 1992, which I still have somewhere, but it was only the chorus part that I ended up keeping. Had great fun writing a cool new verse and bridge when I knew the chorus would work with anything. They’re the fun moments of writing. The rest of the time is normally blood rolling from my eyes in panic…..!!”
T. Walsh – 2006
The second single to be released from “Jollity”, was “This Could Be Good”. The release date was Friday, March 3rd 2006. The single is still available to buy on-line of course at 1969 Records That site has been up-dated and is choc-full of all the good things. Please check it out on one of your surfing sessions!! The single is a 3 track affair with 2 un-released Pug-Songs. Track 2 is the bands take on a Colin Hare (60’s greats HONEYBUS and solo artist) little-known classic “To My Maker”. Thomas has been a huge fan of this track ever since he bought Colin’s amazing solo-album March Hare back in 1989. The album was originally released to an un-wanting and stupid public back in 1971 and comes unbelievably highly recomended by the band. If this 2006 version brings a few more fans to the altar of Mr.Hare then we here at Pug-Base will be very happy!!
Track 3 is a bona-fide “Jollity” out-take. “Home To Me” was originally attempted AND recorded twice during the sessions for the album but for some reason it just didn’t come up to the standard that was being set elsewhere on the record so it was shelved. When the track was resurected for the single the only things that were kept from the original sessions in Abbey Road – Studio2 were Thomas’s vocal and some organ parts. The rest was recorded during the “To My Maker” sessions in late 2005. It’s a small departure for The Pugs (not much) but you can come to your own conclusions if you pop to Ye’ olde 1969 records shop-site…..!
