HOW 'HIP & STYLISH' ARE WE.....?
Well ‘very’, according to the Irish Independent’s annual list…..
We know…..!!
This is as non-sensical and silly as it is enjoyable and fun!! The annual Irish Independent’s list of The most chic people, places and things of 2008 was published last Sunday (Aug:31st) and in at 26 with a bullet is none other than…..US!!??
Thomas commented…..“I was sitting in my size 50 sweats and a Jeff Lynne t-shirt watching a ‘King Of Queens’ weekend on Paramount Comedy when my brother rang me to say we’d made the list of the most chic and stylish in Ireland and I said…..YOU’RE DAMN RIGHT!! I celebrated by making a fish finger sandwich with batch loaf…...now THAT’S hip!!.....”
All fun aside though, we’d like to thank our friends over at the Independent for rating the band so highly. There was only one act ahead of us in the poll (Fight Like Apes) and further down the list there were other musical friends of The Pugs (Boss Volenti & Cathy Davey).
THE PUGS LOOKING OVER BONO’S SHOULDER AT #26…..
This is what was said in the blurb…..
“Riding off the back off their latest album ‘Eleven modern Antiquities’- pure-sunshine pop genius, which has attracted substantial domestic and international critical acclaim- Dublin band Pugwash seem set to make the transfer from cult heroes to mainstream noteriety. The brainchild of Crumliner (sic) Thomas Walsh, Pugwash’s list of music friends and collaborators is certainly impressive, including Andy Partridge & Dave Gregory of XTC, Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy, Michael Penn, Jason Falkner, The Section Quartet and Nelson Bragg of The Brian Wilson Band. Walsh also has a major fan in Ryan Tubridy, who has given the band much-deserved airplay.”
The band feel very proud and honoured to rank so highly as ‘Pugwash’s’ music definitely ploughs a very much more independent furrow to those other bands in the list, so for that we thank the journalists and the paper…...CHEERS!!
On other more pertinent issues, we have said, in the past, that “big news shall be forthcoming…..” about The Pugs back catalogue and oversea’s releases but as of yet we’ve not mentioned this news to you. WELL…..for now that’s not going to change actually (Sorry!!) but we are so close to fullfilling that promise that we can actually TASTE the excitement here at Pug-Towers. So please keep checking back and watching for those updates on MySpace and all points PUG-WEB
Back soon folks….. but for now Thomas, Keith and Johnny are off to sip some pink champagne, fiddle with their monocules and discuss Proust with Tom Paulin whilst munching caviare and fois gras in various silk lined smoking jackets. Now THAT’S stylish!!

#1 in this lads book! So, if that makes me as stylish as say, I dunno…your most Prominant STYX fan, then this MUST be about 1982.
GO 26!
(who’s actually counting?)
Congratulations! I read that article this weekend only to find out today that we shall be supporting you in Whelans on the 4th of October. We are looking forward to it, see y’all there!
